If you are one of the millions of homeowners who opted for an all-white or primarily white kitchen over the last decade, you are not alone. While at first, an all-white room can feel crisp and clean, over time, it can begin to feel stale and sterile. Add some personality back into your home by breaking up the boring with layered color and texture.
Texture

Layering in texture to break up the monotony of white painted cabinets is one of the simplest ways to add visual interest into a white room. One way you can do this is with a ceiling to countertop backsplash in a complementary texture. A solid stone slab, glass, or tin tile are all popular, impactful choices.
Another popular option is to incorporate natural wood elements like open shelving or butcher block countertops. The texture of wood adds warmth and a sense of nature to a room that has begun to look a bit cold. White and the brown tones of wood pair particularly well with grays and blues and these color combinations look beautiful with a variety of hardware and fixture finishes.
Color

Another way to add some depth and character to a white room is to play with color. Go bold with your kitchen island which, does not have to match your kitchen cabinets. Or choose prominent pendant lights with a solid cover, rather than the trendy glass lantern style. These will break up your field of vision so you see more than a sea of white.
Another, more subtle option is to choose an unconventional window frame color – black is becoming an increasingly popular choice. If you’re a fan of the more subtle options, hardware can also break up a white space. Chrome is less likely to make a statement against white cabinets but brass and oil-rubbed bronze will do the trick.
No matter the color of your space, experimenting with color and texture can take any room from basic to beautiful. If you are interested in adding some new elements to your home, speak to your local Fairview Millwork and Kitchens representative.
